2015.11.11 – Kansas City Star – 95th Street Project Feared, Anticipated

There’s no way to rebuild a major highway interchange without causing some pain to nearby businesses and residents. But with the impending closure of 95 Street at Interstate 35, the Kansas Department of Transportation and the city of Lenexa are working to minimize the discomfort.

Renner Boulevard & K-10 Interchange

EXPECT DELAYS! 24/7 ROAD & RAMP CLOSURES: All lanes of Renner Boulevard at K-10, eastbound K-10 to Renner Boulevard exit ramp and Renner Boulevard to eastbound K-10 entrance ramp will be CLOSED to all traffic, 24/7 round the clock, beginning sometime Tuesday, April 14, weather permitting. Renner Boulevard is scheduled to reopen in mid-September 2015, and the eastbound K-10 Renner Boulevard ramps are scheduled to reopen in August 2015, weather permitting.

These closures are needed as crews will completely reconstruct the interchange ramps, as well as reconstruct Renner Boulevard south of K-10 due to a significant roadway grade change in this area.

SPECIAL NOTE: > > Renner Boulevard and the adjacent K-10 ramps will FULLY CLOSE once College Boulevard is opened to four-lanes of traffic which is planned for some time during the day this Tuesday, April 14, weather permitting. Renner Boulevard at K-10 cannot fully close until College Boulevard is fully opened to four lanes of traffic.

Advance message boards will alert traffic to the ramp and roadway closures. Marked detours will be provided. See the three detour maps below for Renner Boulevard through traffic detour; Renner Boulevard to K-10/I-435 detour; and K-10/I-435 to Renner Boulevard detour.

Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via signage and cones. Drivers should expect delays and must use alternate routes during these long-term closures.

Updated daily traffic information for the #jocogateway interchange project can be viewed at www.jocogateway.com and for the entire Kansas City Metro Area at www.ksdot.org/kcmetro/laneclose.asp.

The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through the project work zone. The overall #jocogateway project is scheduled to be completed in late December 2016. (KDOT Project #435-46 KA-1002-06)
