Johnson County Gateway Project FULL OPENING UPDATE

 

GOOD NEWS! ALL CLOSURES FULLY OPENING by Monday, December 12!  Over the weekend, GIC crews will complete permanent pavement marking work throughout the interchange area and if they are successful, by 5 a.m. on Monday, December 12, weather permitting, the following movements will FULLY OPEN to traffic.

 

  • Westbound I-435 to southbound I-35 flyover ramp will fully open to two lanes
  • Eastbound I-435 to northbound I-35 flyover ramp will fully open to two lanes
  • Eastbound I-435 to southbound I-35 ramp will fully open to two lanes
  • All lanes of eastbound I-435 at I-35 will fully open

 

Here’s what this means for drivers:  All movements at the Johnson County Gateway Project will be FULLY OPEN to all traffic, after 2.5 years of ongoing construction. There will still be daily lane closures as crews continue to complete finishing work throughout the project.

I-35 & I-435 Interchange Weekend Lane & Ramp Closures

WEEKEND-LONG LOOP RAMP CLOSURE:  Northbound I-35 to westbound I-435 loop ramp CLOSED for bridge epoxy overlay work on westbound I-435 beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, October 7 and reopening at 5 a.m. on Monday, October 10, weather permitting.

A marked detour will be provided via northbound I-35 to 95th Street exit, through left turns at the Diverging Diamond interchange back onto southbound I-35 to access westbound I-435 ramp. See marked detour map below.

WEEKEND DAY OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES:  Northbound I-35 TWO LEFT LANES with channelized lane shift at I-435 CLOSED for bridge form removal work beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday-Saturday, October 7-8 and reopening at 5 a.m. on Saturday-Sunday, October 8-9, weather permitting.

Westbound I-435 CLOSURES

WEEKEND DAY OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES:  Westbound I-435 TWO LEFT LANES from Quivira Road to I-35 CLOSED for pavement marking work beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday-Sunday, October 7-9, and reopening at 5 a.m. on Saturday-Monday, October 8-10, weather permitting.

Eastbound I-435 CLOSURES

WEEKEND DAY LANE CLOSURE: Eastbound I-435 LEFT LANE from Santa Fe Trail Drive to I-35 CLOSED for bridge epoxy overlay work from 10 p.m. on Friday, October 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, weather permitting.

WEEKEND OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES:  Eastbound I-435 TWO LEFT LANES from K-10 to U.S. 69 CLOSED for bridge epoxy overlay work beginning at 10 p.m. on Saturday, October 8 and reopening at 5 a.m. on Monday, October 10, weather permitting. Traffic will enter a channelized lane shift around work at the bridge over I-35.

WEEKEND DAY RAMP CLOSURE:  Lackman Road to eastbound I-435 entrance ramp CLOSED for bridge epoxy overlay work beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, October 9 and reopening at 5 a.m. on Monday, October 10, weather permitting.

A marked detour will be provided via portable message board. Traffic will detour via southbound I-35 to 119th Street exit, via left turns through interchange back onto northbound I-35 to access eastbound I-435. See marked detour map below.

WEEKEND DAY OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES: Northbound/westbound I-435 LEFT LANE from I-35 to K-10 CLOSED overnight for final asphalt surfacing work beginning at 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, then a SECOND LEFT LANE CLOSED beginning at 10 p.m. the same night and one lane will reopen at 8 a.m. on Sunday, September 11 and then the other left lane will reopen at 10 a.m. the same day, weather permitting.

 

Here’s what this means for drivers > Northbound/westbound I-435 from I-35 to K-10 reduced to ONE OPEN THROUGH LANE during the overnight closure. Traffic will travel through a channelized lane shift around the work zone area.

 WEEKEND DAY OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURE: Westbound K-10 RIGHT LANE from I-435 to Renner Boulevard CLOSED overnight for final asphalt surfacing work beginning at 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 10 and will reopen at 10 a.m. on Sunday, September 11, weather permitting. Traffic will travel through a channelized lane shift around the work zone area.

WEEKDAY OVERNIGHT FULL ROAD & RAMP CLOSURES: Southbound I-35 from 87th Street to I-435 FULLY CLOSED to traffic for bridge barrier removal work beginning at 10 p.m. on Monday, June 27 and reopening at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, weather permitting. In addition, the southbound I-35 to westbound I-435 ramp and the 87th Street to southbound I-35 ramp will be closed during the same timeframe.
