KDOT to Host Public Open House for Johnson County Gateway Phase 2 Design-Build Project

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is hosting a public open house for the Johnson County Gateway: Phase 2 Design-Build Project on Thursday, April 10. The public is invited to attend the open house style meeting anytime between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. at the Thompson Barn (formerly the Lenexa Conference Center) located at 11184 Lackman Road, Lenexa, Kansas 66219.

At the open house, attendees can learn about the upcoming project construction plans and schedule. KDOT staff and the design-build contractor, Gateway Interchange Constructors, will be on hand to answer questions. There will be no formal presentations.

The I-435/I-35/K-10 interchange is one of the most congested interchanges in the state. The Johnson County Gateway Phase 2 Design-Build Project will address 90 percent of the existing problems drivers experience today and 50 percent of projected 2040 traffic problems. Construction will start later this spring and is scheduled to be completed by December 31, 2016, seven months ahead of the original schedule.

The Johnson County Gateway is KDOT’s first design-build project. Design-build will streamline project delivery allowing early collaboration between the contractor and the designer. This early collaboration can result in project innovations, faster project delivery and more predictable costs.

For more information on the design-build process or the Johnson County Gateway Project, please contact Burt Morey at (913) 764-4525 or bmorey@ksdot.org. Additional project background can be found on the project website: www.jocogateway.com.
